Advocacy Week 2012
Advocacy Week was one of the most important events of the TEFL/TESL Graduate Student Association (GSA). During Advocacy Week 2012, I attended Korean language presentation by Jinyoung Koh and Shinae Joo. I also attended Literacy Family Literacy Night at Community organizing to Reach Empowerment (CORE) Center, a Fort Collins community center to promote lower-income students and family's literacy. I made a bookmark with CORE learners' name in Korean on it and helped clean up after Literacy Family Night was over. Though it was a short time experience, it was valuable to have an opportunity to volunteer for promoting CORE family literacy.

Advocacy Week 2013
I volunteered for Korean Language Presentation during Advocacy Week 2013. My
presentation included the origin of the Korean alphabet (Hangeul), basic consonants
and vowels of Hangeul, how to write Hangeul, and basic Korean language for
introducing oneself. The audience was interested in Korea and I was pleased that I taught about Korean to those who were interested in my country.
I attended Working and Living Abroad (Kristie Yelinek, Tara Brandenburg and Shannon
Zeller). I got useful and practical information about working abroad in terms of getting a VISA and to overcoming cultural differences.
I also attended the keynote speech delivered by Dr. Fredricka Stoller (Northern Arizona University) about “Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Best Path to Meet Students’ Discipline Specific Literary Needs” Considering the increasing number of
international students coming to America, the topic was very relevant. Through her lecture, I experienced how ESP applied in an actual class: her case was how to promote international Chemistry undergraduate students’ English literacy.
I’m doing my internship for INTO CSU Pathway program. I assist an English instructor who supports Pathway program students who major in engineering with developing vocabulary activities for the international students. The information
from Dr. Fredricka Stoller’s lecture contributed to coming up with vocabulary activities: how to develop Engineering-specific vocabulary materials.
