Evolution of Intercultural Rhetoric
This paper was written for my class in E507 Intercultural Rhetoric. Language is deeply related with personal identity and
culture within a society. That's why those who teach or will teach EFL/ESL need to know about the connection of language and culture.
The Evolution of Intercultural Rhetoric focuses on the synthesized review of the historical development of intercultural rhetoric starting from contrastive rhetoric originated by Kaplan’s (1966) article to current trends of intercultural rhetoric dealing with various factors affecting L2 language learning and various research methods.
Writing this paper gave me an opportunity to think about how to facilitate L2 learners with writing difficulties. Above all, I realized ESL/EFL teachers should understand variations of the writing patterns within different languages,
keeping in mind that English writing convention is not the only standard.
