Suffixes to Create Nouns
This paper was originally written for the course E512 Phonology and Morphology. The paper was on word formation. Words can be formed in various ways and this paper explored one of the ways: derivational suffixes. By focusing on suffixes used for noun formation, instead of just listing suffixes, a better understanding of semantic/conceptual aspects was addressed in this paper. This research helped me organize suffixes to create nouns and provided me with ideas about how to teach them to EFL/ESL learners. Understanding of this topic will provide EFL teachers with more in-depth conceptualized knowledge leading to effective teaching about noun-formation using suffixes.
