This is a reflection on practice teaching as a teacher, lesson plan coach and evaluator of practice teaching. Through the practicum course, I had an opportunity to apply what I learned from the methodology course E 536: Teaching English as a Foreign/ Second language (EFL/ESL) into practice teaching. I learned a lot about teaching from my experiences as a lesson plan coach and an evaluator as well as a teacher.
My experience as a teacher, lesson plan coach and evaluator provided me insight and guidelines for future teaching. I experienced how to apply communicative teaching skills in an actual lesson through practice teaching. I learned how to critically and professionally review lesson plans while working as a lesson plan coach. While watching and evaluating other peers’ teaching, I also learned a variety of useful teaching and class management skills: how to manage a group efficiently according to learning tasks and student profiles; how to present new vocabulary; and how to assess students’ learning outcome. The experience as a teacher, lesson plan coach, and evaluator in teaching practicum will contribute to my future teaching effectiveness.
