The TESOL/NCATE Standards
The Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) standards prescribes the requirements for professional ESL teachers. The standards are used for national recognition of teacher education programs by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). According to TESOL homepage, the standards were revised in 2009 and they are widely used to assess P-12 ESL teacher education programs.
These standards contain five domains: Language, Culture, Instruction, Assessment and Professionalism. The TESOL/NCATE standards provide specified elements in each domain for qualified ESL teachers. I demonstrate my expertise as an ESL teacher by proving evidence that I meet the standards in each domain.
